There are a few products available that actually allow you to talk to your computers and have them type your words. All of the systems require a period of time that you read pre-planned text to the system and it "learns" your speech. The introduction of the Pentium III has helped this process as it has built in voice software. The"training time" has been cut by more than 50%.
Wouldn't it be nice to chart your patient notes or send letters just by taking into a microphone? Three popular products are:
L&H Voice Express There is a medical dition that has a giant vocabulary of medical terms. This is very easy to set up and use, and the customer service is excellent.
IBM Via Voice Has gotten great reviews and also has a medical edition.
Dragon Naturally Speaking is a very popular, highly rated product. I have had problems with their support. There is a new wireless microphone that can connect via the USB port ( $79.95) which looks very good. Recently, L&H has bought out Dragon. (6/2000). Keep your eyes open for updates.
Dragon has been recently purchased by L&H - this should put both of the creative minds together to reach the potentials that we are looking for.
